Become a Participant. If you know or suspect that you have Kauri Dieback on your residential or rural property in Auckland you can join this project. To find out more about this please fill in our form: I want to treat my kauri. Our team members can organise a free assessment of your kauri tree(s) and soil to confirm Kauri Dieback, through your local Council - although alternative testing can be provided, at a cost (see our form for details about this). It is important this testing is undertaken as only sites with confirmed Kauri Dieback can be included in the trial. Sign up to receive our newsletter. The Kauri Rescue project was officially launched on February 9, to a large and enthusiastic audience in Titirangi. Speakers from the Kauri Rescue team outlined the project's aims, and answered a variety of questions from the audience.
It is clear from the feedback received on the night that Waitakere residents are keen to engage and are excited to see that they can make a contribution to rescuing kauri from the devastating dieback disease. Kauri Rescue is a citizen science initiative, which will see residents with known dieback in their Kauri trees apply phosphite treatment in an effort to protect the tree from the disease. In addition Matauranga Maori solutions will be explored to investigate alternative treatments. A pilot study will begin in late February with about 10 residents who have known dieback on their property and then expand to a wider group of participants in April. If you are interested in participating please fill in our contact form. Check out our merchandise, including t-shirts, bags and hats
